St Katherine’s in Chiselhampton, Oxfordshire

Sitting pretty in hedge-lined seclusion just 6 miles southeast of the dreaming spires of Oxford, the simple Georgian beauty of St Katherine’s in Chiselhampton is full of light. With its charming box pews complete with reading lamps and a bare wooden floor-boarded gallery above, it’s little wonder that this simple church was a favourite of poet laureate John Betjeman, who wrote Verses Turned in Aid of a Public Subscription towards the Restoration of the Church of St. Katherine, Chiselhampton” in 1952. We simply couldn’t put it better ourselves.

Magic weekend at a tiny Church in Oxfordshire!
We stayed at St Katherine’s in Chislehampton in mid-May and it was perfect!
we were well prepared for cold after reading some reviews, but in actual fact it was surprisingly toasty!
we had no trouble getting the key from the inn down the road, and found everything we needed – the kettle, cups and plastic wine glasses was an unexpected bonus! Even the camp beds were comfy, if a little creaky (as you can tell, we are not seasoned campers!).
Having the upstairs area with table and camp chairs was fantastic, and a great little picnic was enjoyed there on our first night! It was a wonderful couples weekend away and we would definitely do it again (and try another church a bit further away from home!).
